Mark Humphrey is a British interdisciplinary artist who challenges us to see our global issues from a different perspective, through the everyday.

The idea does not end with the artwork. It enters daily life as a living reminder, offering a different way to see the familiar.

Humphrey founded his London studio in 2000 to conceive, design and make original works that confront our actions, behaviours and beliefs, questioning the systems and values that shape our lives. His work explores the human condition and our relationship with people and planet.

Humphrey questions what we recognise and asks: Why is it like this? How else can we see it? What else can it become?

His diverse and wide-ranging works are connected by the same impulse: to see differently – looking deeper, challenging what we think we understand and revealing the unexpected.

The familiar becomes a vehicle for the unfamiliar.

For Humphrey, the idea comes first and the disciplines follow – sculpture, installation, painting, architecture, interiors and industrial design become blended mediums through which an idea can take shape, be explored and ultimately realised. 

His practice is meticulous, yet unrestricted. Materials are never too precious, too ordinary or too unconventional. From rare stone and abattoir blood to exotic skin and battlefield rubble, Humphrey embraces whatever the idea demands. Alongside the materials are the varied, sometimes complex and often highly specialised processes and techniques required to bring the idea to life.

From Oxford carbon fibre moulding, Pietrasanta stone carving and Venice glass blowing to Jaipur agate inlaying, Cape Town leather stitching and Istanbul silk weaving, Humphrey works across an extraordinary range of technical and traditional craftsmanship.

Across his career, Humphrey has worked with organisations, institutions, brands and individuals including Apple Records (The Beatles), the Ministry of Defence, Grosvenor Estate, Canary Wharf Group, KPMG, CBRE Group, ArcelorMittal, Jumeirah, Fendi, Kenzo, Louis Vuitton, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. 

Examples of his works have toured across the UK, supported by various city councils and institutions, with unveilings in Trafalgar Square and at the National Maritime Museum. Humphrey has exhibited with Mayfair galleries in London, and his work has been shown at international fairs, national centres, museum collections, protected historical wreckage sites, memorial gardens, art trails and sculpture parks.

From the White Cliffs of Dover to Repulse Bay in Hong Kong, and from the North Sea off the coast of Denmark to the French Quarter of New Orleans, each project connects art, people and place, bringing ideas into communities worldwide. 

His philanthropy has included donating artworks to support the British Armed Forces, Prostate Cancer UK, Team GB and Paralympic GB, Paddle UK and The Royal British Legion, with some receiving dedications from members of the British Royal Family, Lord Mayors and UK Government ministers.

Humphrey has also sponsored and created concepts for the Royal Air Force, Chief of Defence People, Corps of Royal Engineers, Churches Conservation Trust, Chartwell, National Trust and others. His projects have received sponsorship from organisations including Rolls Royce and BAE Systems, with endorsements by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and military charities in the UK.

He has supported various fundraising initiatives and worked internationally with schools and UK Government trade delegations. He has also been invited to charitable events including 10 Downing Street, British Consulates and Women For Women International in recognition of his community public art.

Humphrey has won international awards and has been invited to participate in worldwide competitions. Recently he was one of two finalists for Kazakhstan’s largest bank for a monumental cultural public artwork in Astana.
